Toxicity Mitigation Design
UX and system design decisions that reduce harmful player-to-player behaviour, harassment, griefing, abuse, without removing competitive intensity.
In games, this means
Restricting pre-game chat, limiting post-death communication, offering curated quick-chat options instead of open voice, and making report flows frictionless all reduce toxicity without muting the game. Riot's design in Valorant, where 'GG EZ' auto-translates to self-deprecating text, is a well-known example of UX-level toxicity intervention.
