Analytics Instrumentation
The deliberate placement of event tracking throughout the game to capture player behaviour data, the technical foundation of all quantitative UX research.
In games, this means
Deciding what to measure is as important as how to measure it. Common instrumentation: session start/end, tutorial step completion, first death location, feature discovery events, currency spend, and session length. Under-instrumented games cannot diagnose drop-off. Over-instrumented games produce data noise that obscures signal. Instrument around key decisions and transitions first.
