Excess visual information that competes for player attention without adding value. A leading cause of overwhelm and poor readability in game interfaces.

In games, this means

Flashing icons for systems the player can't interact with yet, expired buffs still showing in the UI, or 6 simultaneous tutorial popups, all add noise that buries the signal the player actually needs.
