Loot Fatigue

The emotional numbness that sets in when item drops are so frequent, or so similar, that each one carries no weight, when every chest contains something, nothing feels like a find.

In games, this means

In games where loot drops constantly and most items are near-identical incremental upgrades, the dopamine response to a new drop flattens to zero. Players begin ignoring drops entirely or auto-selling without reading. The fix is scarcity, visual differentiation (distinct art and sound for rare items), and meaningful variation in what items do, not just how large their numbers are. Loot should feel like discovery, not maintenance.
