Dead Zone
The area around a joystick's neutral position where input is ignored, preventing unintentional drift from slight stick movement or hardware imprecision.
In games, this means
Too small a dead zone causes unwanted drift; too large makes the stick feel unresponsive. Adjustable dead zones are a sign of good controller UX, especially important as controllers age and drift increases.
