The Pit (Failure-Based Teaching)
A level or encounter specifically designed so that players fail, experience the consequence, and learn the rule through that failure, making the lesson memorable rather than abstract.
In games, this means
A narrow bridge with no railing placed early in a platformer teaches that falling is possible before the stakes are high. Players fall, respawn, cross carefully. The lesson is learned without frustration because the cost was low. The pit works because failure is a more effective teacher than instruction, but only when recovery is fast and the rule becomes clear from the experience.
